Changes to Right to Rent legislation

Right to Rent Check Changes after Brexit

**IMPORTANT NOTICE**

New rules for businesses and citizens from 1 January 2021.

As we prepare to leave the EU, the Right to Rent in the UK legislation will be changing.   EU, EEA and Swiss Nationals have until the end of the year to apply to continue living and renting in the UK after 31st December 2020.   Citizens from other countries also need to comply, namely – Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Ireland.

Applications can be done online, please go to https://www.gov.uk/staying-uk-eu-citizen

This is a very important process and we urge all Landlords to check their records.

From June 2021 Tenants from the EU and countries listed above will need to produce evidence of their Right to Rent or Landlords will be forced to serve a Section 8 Ground 7B through the courts.

There remains a lighter-touch regime in place for Right to Rent during the Covid pandemic as well which landlords should be aware of.
